This positions the Tipperary-based firm as a key player in Europe's circular plastics market.
Tipperary, Ireland – March 2025 — Trifol Resources Limited has completed its first commercial shipment of pyrolysis oil derived from plastic waste to Shell Chemicals Europe B.V., marking a significant milestone for the Tipperary-based clean tech company and Ireland's growing circular economy sector.
The delivery — approximately 50 metric tonnes of pyrolysis oil — is part of a supply agreement signed with Shell in August 2024. Pyrolysis oil produced at the Tipperary plant will be processed at Shell’s Chemicals Park in Moerdijk, The Netherlands.
The delivery marks a major operational milestone, positioning Trifol at the forefront of Europe's transition to circular materials. Trifol’s patented low-pressure thermal decomposition process — which operates with no oxygen and no flame — converts difficult-to-recycle plastic into high-value circular feedstocks, pyrolysis oil and waxes.
According to Dr. Ruben Rodriguez Quintero, Trifol CEO:
" TRIFOL's first shipment to Shell marks a significant milestone in our journey. From a novel, cutting-edge technology startup, TRIFOL has evolved into a company with a fully proven commercial offering in the circular economy and specialty chemicals sectors. This marks the beginning of TRIFOL's journey of growth and expansion in the EU and globally."
The company's production technology, commissioned mid-2024 and fully certified under REACH and ISCC PLUS, enables the conversion of plastic waste into pyrolysis oil that contributes to plastics recycling and supports the circular economy.
